Call For Papers

Scotland’s premier road, transport and mobility event, Road Expo, returns to the SEC Glasgow this November and we’re inviting Scottish local authorities to be at the heart of the conference programme.

We are seeking engaging, insightful and practical presentations from those working across Scotland’s local transport, infrastructure, and roads sectors. Whether you're delivering frontline services, piloting innovative projects, or shaping long-term strategies, we want to hear from you.

Key Themes

This year’s programme will focus on four critical themes shaping the future of Scotland’s road networks and local transport systems:

  • Skills – Developing the workforce for a changing transport landscape
  • Innovation – Embracing new technologies, ideas, and processes
  • Resilience – Building adaptable and future-proof local infrastructure
  • Sustainability – Delivering low-carbon, environmentally responsible transport solutions

We welcome submissions including:

  • Case studies from local authorities
  • Cross-sector collaboration projects
  • Policy implementation experiences
  • Lessons learned from trials and pilots
  • Forward-thinking strategies for future transport

Join a Panel Discussion

In addition to presentations, this year’s programme will feature a series of interactive panel sessions. We are inviting local authority voices to contribute to the following four expert panels, addressing pressing and practical challenges facing the sector:

  • Panel 1: The Digital Route to Net Zero: Tackling Operational Carbon in Scotland’s Road Network
  • Panel 2: Addressing Demand for Resources and Skills in the Scottish Roads Sector
  • Panel 3: How Road Design Can Influence Active Travel Uptake (Proposed by the Active Mobility Hub at the University of Strathclyde)
  • Panel 4: How Road Condition Monitoring Can Better Feed into Maintenance Planning

If you are interested in participating in any of these panels, either instead of or in addition to a presentation proposal, please indicate your interest when you submit.

Who Should Submit?

We welcome submissions from officers, teams, and leaders working across:

  • Roads and transportation
  • Infrastructure planning and delivery
  • Climate and sustainability
  • Engineering and innovation
  • Workforce development and training

Whether you’re delivering operational services, testing new technologies, shaping policy, or developing future strategies, your insight and experience can help drive sector-wide learning and collaboration.

Please submit a short abstract (max 300 words) outlining your proposed topic, the challenges addressed, and key takeaways for delegates. Presentations should be approx. 20 minutes in length.
