StoneMaster brochureA summary of our Green Apple Award winning roadside filter drain recycling process.
Products

StoneMaster
StoneMaster returns roadside filter drains to their optimum condition by removing the sediment that accumulates between the filter media. The in-situ recycling process improves road safety and pavement integrity by reducing flooding events and occasions of standing water on the carriageway.
The process is sustainable in that it recycles existing material and minimises the volume of additional material that has to be quarried and transported to site, thus significantly reducing the number of vehicle movements to and from site. Multiple units can work in the same TM closure for even greater savings and efficiencies.
In 2021, the StoneMaster process was given a prestigious Green Apple Environment Award.
In July 2022, Carnell completed a filter drain recycling scheme on the A96. By using StoneMaster, the combined 3,750m length of filter drain was brought back to specification in 11 night shifts, 5 fewer than planned. By only taking away non-compliant material, 787 HGV journeys were removed from the network, while the reduction of materials and haulage alone led to a reduction in CO2e emissions of over 54 tonnes.

SmartScan
SmartScan has been developed by Carnell as a ‘risk-based approach’ to the condition assessment of roadside filter drains. Using innovative data capture technology combined with bespoke reporting software, an accurate analysis of the filter drain asset’s performance is quickly produced.
Carnell’s fleet of custom-built SmartScan vehicles undertake a high speed, non-intrusive investigation of the roadside filter drain’s surface and sub-surface condition. The survey is carried out in accordance with highways drainage standard CS 551 Drainage surveys (Section 5: Filter drain condition survey by GPR). Data is captured to CD 535 Drainage asset data and risk management specification ready for upload to DDMS.

SafetyCam
SafetyCam is an intelligent site safety innovation which protects road workers by using two complimentary vehicle detection systems to capture instances of dangerous driving, while providing a conspicuous visual deterrent and actively changing driver behaviour.
Originally designed to stop vehicle incursions into traffic management, it has since evolved to monitor speeds of site vehicles through roadworks and road users through diversion routes. The system fuses image, video and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with state-of-the-art processing and reporting techniques.
The newest additions to the fleet are 'solar-aided' so that the monitoring equipment can run without the engine idling.

Drainage Find & Fix
Carnell have been at the forefront of technical drainage surveys and no-dig remediation for almost two decades. Our Find & Fix solution brings together this experience and expertise to deliver the most cost-effective way to determine asset condition and remediate the most critical defects.
The process includes:
- Desktop survey to develop initial programme (data led/intelligence led).
- CCTV Survey undertaken with trenchless support which include Root Cutting, Robotic Cutting and Patch Lining equipment on site.
- Ability to find defects and immediately fix in situ.
- Remediation proposal formulated for any major defects unable to fix.
